Traffic Incident at 11800 East Freeway

September 23, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 11800 block of the East Freeway (Interstate 10 East) service road about 4:05 a.m. today (Sept. 23).

The identity of a deceased female pedestrian, believed to be in her 30s, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant S.R. Sorge and Officer D. Gutierrez reported:

The driver of a BFI garbage truck traveling west on the East Freeway service road struck a pedestrian walking in the second lane of the service road. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
