Traffic Incident at 2300 Southwest Freeway
October 23, 2006 -- Charges
are pending against the driver of a car that caused a fatality
accident in the 2300 block of the Southwest Freeway on Monday,
October 23, 2006 at about 2 a.m.
HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeants
R. Gonzales, S.R. Sorge and Officers S. Johnson, P. Lasalle, Vecera
and Balthrop reported that a maroon Lexus RX300 SUV driven by
Elizabeth Shelton was traveling southbound in the 2300 block of
the Southwest Freeway. She lost control of her vehicle and swerved
across two lanes of traffic before striking a commercial Ford
F-650 truck, driven by Mr. Lance Bennet.
Ms. Shelton was transported to Ben Taub General
Hospital and had a mandatory blood sample taken. The passenger
in her vehicle, Mr. Mathew McNiece, died from injuries suffered
in the accident. Ms. Shelton, who is the daughter of State District
Judge Pat Shelton, faces intoxication manslaughter charges and
will be arrested once released from the hospital.
This incident is still under investigation.
