Update on Incident at 3801 O'Meara Drive

October 14, 2006 -- Charges have been filed on a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 3801 O'Meara Drive about 2 a.m. on May 31, 2006.

The suspect, Richard Burgess Jr. (b/m, 9/1/73), is charged in the 230th State District Court for the killing of Sheila Little, age unknown, of 3900 O'Meara #188.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.T. Mosqueda and Officer L. Benavidez reported:

Witnesses heard several gunshots coming from the corner of O'Meara Drive at Stella Link about 2 a.m. Several minutes later, Ms. Little was found lying on the grass between a sidewalk and building #1 at the Pine Terrace Apartments at 3900 O'Meara.

After killing Little, Burgess fled to New Orleans, LA and was subsequently charged with two counts of capital murder for killings in that city. On October 13, 2006, he was arrested in Jefferson Parish Louisiana for the New Orleans murders. He is now in custody in New Orleans and awaiting extradition to Harris County.
