Update on Incident at 2737 Briargrove Drive #121

May 31, 2006 -- Houston police have learned a woman found at 2737 Briargrove Drive #121 about 6:50 a.m. on May 25 had been fatally shot.

The victim, identified as Melanie Diane Parker, 21, of 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121, was found burned inside her apartment. An autopsy has ruled Ms. Parker died from a gunshot wound.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T.R. Hernandez and Officer X. Avila reported:

The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121 after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the unit. After putting out the fire, HFD personnel found Ms. Parker's body in the bedroom, lying on the bed. A preliminary investigation by HFD arson officials revealed the possibility of arson, since only the area around the bed suffered extensive burn damage.

No suspicious activity was reported prior to the fire.
