Traffic Incident at 1800 Quitman
May 27, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating an apparent hit-and-run fatal traffic accident
at 1800 Quitman about 12:40 a.m. today (May 27).
The identity of the deceased male victim, believed
to be in his early 20s, is pending verification by the Harris
County Medical Examiner*s office.
HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant
D.S. Runyan and Officer T.D. Houston reported:
Officers were called to 1800 Quitman on reports
of a robbery-in-progress, with a man lying on the street. Officers
arrived and found the victim dead and believed he had been run
over by at least one vehicle. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots
about the same time as the original call to police, so patrol
officers called homicide investigators to the scene. Homicide
investigators did not find any evidence at the scene to indicate
the victim had been shot and a medical examiner*s investigator
also found no evidence the victim had suffered a gunshot wound.
Pending further investigation and autopsy results,
this incident has been ruled a hit-and-run fatal traffic accident
with no known witnesses or suspect(s).
