May 26, 2006 -- Houston police homicide investigators are releasing a composite sketch of a suspect who fatally shot a man at 8334 Gulf Freeway shortly before midnight on Friday, May 19.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years of age, 160 to 180 pounds, and wearing a light brown shirt and dark pants. He was seen running to a waiting 1970s or early 1980s two-door Monte Carlo, burgundy in color with a white vinyl top. The vehicle was on the north side of a Citgo gas station located on the corner of the Gulf Freeway and Bellfort. The suspect was seen getting into the driver's side backseat of the vehicle with two other Hispanic males inside. On Wednesday (May 24), investigators released a video of the shooting captured on nearby surveillance cameras.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. W. Belk and Officers T. W. Miller and M. J. Miller reported:

The victim, Jose G. Perez, 26, who was wearing an orange and white Astros jersey, along with his wife, four-year-old daughter and six-month-old son went to the Chilos Seafood Restaurant to eat dinner and listen to a band. After they left the restaurant, the victim, who was carrying his son in a baby carrier, placed the baby in the backseat of the vehicle on the passenger side. The victim then walked around to the driver's side of the vehicle to help his daughter get into the backseat. At this time, an unknown Hispanic male walked up to the victim and shot at him five times, striking him twice in the right shoulder and upper right back. The victim then ran a few feet and collapsed on the sidewalk of the business. He was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
