Incident at 2737 Briargrove Drive #121
May 25, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating the death of a woman found at 2737 Briargrove
Drive #121 about 6:50 a.m. today (May 25).
The victim, identified as Melanie Diane Parker,
21, of 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121, was found burned inside her apartment.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T.R. Hernandez
and Officer X. Avila reported:
The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire
at 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121 after neighbors reported seeing smoke
coming from the unit. After putting the fire out, HFD personnel
found Ms. Parker's body in the bedroom, lying on the bed. A preliminary
investigation by HFD arson officials revealed the possibility
of arson, since only the area around the bed suffered extensive
burn damage.
No suspicious activity was reported prior to
the fire and the exact cause of death will not be known until
an autopsy is performed by the Harris County Medical Examiner's
office.
