Incident at 7550 Long Point

May 19, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating the death of newborn boy transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital from an apartment complex at 7550 Long Point shortly after midnight on Friday (May 19).

The identity of the infant, who appeared to have been born prematurely (20-22 weeks of gestation), and the cause of death are pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant H.A. Riojas and Officer R. Cervantes reported:

A witness found the crying infant wearing a one-piece white outfit and wrapped in a blanket near a dumpster at the apartment complex. She picked up the infant and called 911. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.
