Traffic Incident at South Sam Houston Parkway Near W. Fuqua

May 17, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on the South Sam Houston Parkway West near West Fuqua about 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday (May 16).

The victim has been identified as Luis Elberto Martinez.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.Washington and Officer M. W. Gartman reported:

A dump truck and small passenger vehicle were traveling eastbound on the South Sam Houston Parkway West near West Fuqua. The truck was in the middle lane of traffic and the vehicle, driven by Martinez, was in the left lane. The front left of the truck struck the right side of the passenger vehicle. The driver of the dump truck was not injured in this accident.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
