Incident at 5300 West Bellfort

May 14, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man at 5300 W. Bellfort about 9:15 p. m. on Saturday (May 13).

The victim is identified as Bruce Laine Caldwell, 20, of 12700 Brandon Bend in Missouri City. He suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and Officer T. Huynh reported:

Caldwell and the suspect, who were passengers in a vehicle, began arguing. The suspect stabbed Caldwell several times causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash. Caldwell fled on foot; however, the suspect chased him down and stabbed him several more times.

The suspect is only described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds. The motive for the stabbing is unknown.
