Traffic Incident at 5700 Eastex Freeway

May 11, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5700 block of the Eastex Freeway about 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday (May 10).

The deceased victim is identified as Hector Gomez, 31.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant J.A. Ogden and Officers J.E. Tippy and R.A. Breiding reported:

Mr. Gomez was driving a black Chevrolet Trail Blazer south on the Eastex Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 North) and approaching the exits to the 610 North Loop. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a speed limit sign and then the vertical support pole to the overhead sign above the freeway. The impact resulted in Gomez being pronounced dead at the scene.
