Chief Hurtt Announces New Assistant Chief
May 4, 2006 -- Chief of Police
Harold L. Hurtt is pleased to announce the appointment of Captain
John P. Treviño to the
rank of Assistant Chief. Assistant Chief Treviño will be
assigned to the South Patrol Command, where he will oversee the
operations of the Clear Lake, Eastside, Fondren, South Central,
Southeast, Southwest, and Westside Divisions.
Assistant Chief Treviño, born and raised
in the East End of Houston, attended Houston public schools and
graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1978. Prior to
joining the Houston Police Department in 1982, Assistant Chief
Treviño attended the University of Houston Downtown where
he later received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree
in Criminal Justice in 1993. In 2000, Assistant Chief Treviño
received his Master's degree in Business Administration from the
University of Houston (main campus).
Assistant Chief Treviño was promoted
to the rank of Sergeant in 1989, Lieutenant in 1994, and Captain
in 2004. Over his 25 year long career, Assistant Chief Treviño
worked in the Central Division, Southeast Division, Training Division,
and he most recently commanded the Eastside Division. Assistant
Chief Treviño has been married for 20 years to Lieutenant
Elma Treviño, assigned to the Houston Police Department
Robbery Division.
Houston City Council-member Adrian Garcia, chair
of the Public Safety Committee, states, "John Treviño
has prepared himself academically and professionally and he has
earned the respect of his peers within the community in assuming
this new level of responsibility, of which I am confident he will
do very well."
The promotion will become effective on May 6,
2006.
