Incident at 6100 Marinette #304
March 14, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating the death of a three-year-old boy who had stopped
breathing in his apartment at 6100 Marinette #304-B about 1:55
p.m. on Monday (Mar. 13).
The boy, Trinyae Steptore, was transported to
Memorial Hermann Hospital and pronounced dead about 8:30 p.m.
on Monday. He had suffered trauma to his head and chest.
HPD Homicide Division Officers K.P. Carr and
T. Huynh reported:
The victim's mother had gone to a store about
1 p.m. and had left her son with the suspect, her live-in boyfriend,
Adrian Nixon (b/m, DOB 3-20-76). The woman said she had spoken
with her son moments prior to leaving for the store and that he
was in good health, watching television. The boy and Nixon were
the only persons inside the apartment while the woman was gone.
When the woman returned home, she found her son
and Nixon in the boy's bedroom. She attempted to speak with the
boy, but he was lethargic and then unresponsive. The woman noticed
a large mark on her son's neck and called police. While on the
phone with police, the boy stopped breathing and his mother made
a second call for an ambulance.
The woman has three other children who weren't
in the apartment at the time of the incident. There was a brief,
recent history with Harris County Children's Protective Services
at the apartment, and that agency is also investigating this incident.
Homicide investigators will await results of
an autopsy on the boy before deciding whether criminal charges
will be filed in this case.
