Incident at 8935 Veterans Memorial
June 16, 2006 -- Houston police
homicide investigators hope a $10,000 reward from Schepps Dairy
will assist them in obtaining more information on two unknown
suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of a store owner at 8935
Veterans Memorial about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (June 15).
The victim, Thi Viet Nguyen, 49, of 9915 Milda
Drive, received a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W.P. Booth and
Officer A.D. Brown reported:
Two black male suspects entered the Happy Food
Store at 8935 Veterans Memorial while dressed in all black with
their faces covered. One suspect pointed a gun at the victim while
the second grabbed the victim's wife and forced her to the cash
register. After she opened the register and the safe, one of the
suspects began going through the contents of each. At this time,
the couple's 11-year-old son, who was also in the store ran from
behind the counter. When the second suspect and the victim started
arguing, the victim's wife heard two gun shots. The suspects took
money and cigarettes before leaving the store in a white car with
no license plates. Paramedics were called and pronounced the victim
dead at the scene.
Witnesses followed the suspects and found their
vehicle abandoned several blocks away. The two suspects are described
only as black males, in their early 20s dressed in all black.
The vehicle was recovered and found to be stolen in a previous
robbery.
