Incident at 2700 Oxford
June 4, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding
of another man at 2700 Oxford about 3:20 a.m. today (June 4).
The victim's identity is pending notification
to family members. He suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Officers P. T. Yochum and
E. Carstens reported:
Officers responded to a person down call and
found one victim dead from a gunshot wound. A second victim, Jonathan
Cortes, suffered a gunshot wound and had been transported to Ben
Taub General Hospital. Investigators learned the two victims were
inside Cortes' pickup truck when an unknown suspect approached
them and demanded their money and property. The suspect then produced
a handgun and fired it several times, striking both victims. The
suspect then fled in Cortes' vehicle. The vehicle is a red 2002
Ford Ranger pickup truck with an extended cab.
