Update on Incident at 5747 Lycomb

June 2, 2006 -- Houston police homicide investigators have released a composite sketch of one of two suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 5747 Lycomb about 12:45 a.m. on Monday ( May 29).

The composite sketch is of the shooter, described as a black male in his late teens, 6 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build. The composite sketch is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Fortino Olvera Martinez, 53, of 5747 Lycomb.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants C.W. Howard, B. Harris and M.W. McStravick, and Officer T.J. McCorvey reported:

Mr. Martinez and other relatives were having a gathering in front of his home. One of the family members went to his father's truck to get a beverage from a cooler in the bed of the truck and observed a man (suspect) lying in a neighbor's yard. The suspect got up and threatened the family member. After a brief struggle with the suspect, the family member ran back to the home. Witnesses saw another suspect armed with a weapon came out of the shadows. One or both suspects then shot at the home, striking Martinez and another family member. Martinez was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he died. The other family member was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The second suspect is described as a black male, in his late teens to early 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing all black at the time of the shooting.

At 11 a.m. TODAY (Friday, June 2), an investigator in the HPD Homicide Division will be available to answer questions in this case in the media briefing room on the first floor of HPD Headquarters at 1200 Travis.
