Traffic Incident at 7400 Long Point

July 8, 2006 -- Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 7400 Long Point about 9:30 p.m. on Friday (July 7).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer S. Martinez reported:

A 17-year-old driver, traveling east on Long Point, was apparently involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am. As the two vehicles competed for the roadway, the suspect's vehicle struck a pedestrian who was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Ben Taub General Hospital. The 17-year-old was possibly under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. A mandatory blood sample was taken at an area hospital. The driver of the Pontiac fled the scene.
