Traffic Incident at 9300 East Freeway

December 14, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9300 block of the East Freeway (Interstate 10 East) about 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 12).

The name of the deceased victim has not been released pending notification to
family members.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant C.L. Janssen and Officer D.L. Harwell reported:

An off-duty HPD motorcycle officer was escorting a truck with an oversized load eastbound on I-10 approaching the 610 East Loop when the vehicle struck the overpass (exit ramp) to the 610 Loop. The truck's load sheared and landed in the westbound lanes of I-10. Debris resulted in six vehicles colliding with one another, killing one person.

The investigation is continuing.
