Incident at 3600 Corksie Street
April 10, 2006 -- Houston police
have questioned four of six juveniles in the death of a man found
lying in the street in the 3600 block of Corksie on Sunday, April
9, 2006 around 1:43 p.m.
According to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T.
Hernandez and Officer X. Avila, the victim, 46-year-old Anthony
Ray Whitlock of 3630 Corksie was walking about one block from
his home when he got into a verbal confrontation with a group
of juveniles. Mr. Whitlock, who was carrying a wooden stick or
small metal pipe, struck two of those juveniles during that confrontation.
As Mr. Whitlock continued to walk back to his
home, he was confronted by the same juveniles along with additional
juveniles, who were carrying objects in their hands. Mr. Whitlock
swung the stick or pipe he was carrying at the juveniles and was
struck in the head and face with the objects the juveniles were
carrying. The juveniles fled the scene and left Mr. Whitlock lying
in the middle of the street. He was transported to Ben Taub General
Hospital where he died from his injuries.
That evening four juvenile suspects were turned
in to police by their grandparents and gave statements on their
version of this incident and were later released. Two additional
juveniles are being sought for questioning. The investigation
is continuing.
