Update on Incident at 9707 South Gessner
October 26, 2005 -- Houston
police have released a composite
sketch of the suspect who shot and killed an off-duty HPD
officer at 9707 South Gessner about 3 a.m. today (Oct. 26).
Reward monies now total up to $20,000 for information
leading to the arrest and charges against a suspect in this case.
The gunman is described as a black male, 25 to
30 years of age with wavy hair. He had a scar or mark on his bottom
lip.
The slain officer, Reuben
De Leon, 31, was assigned to the Fondren Patrol Division and
sworn in as an HPD officer in August of 1999.
HPD Homicide Division Officers C. L. Scales and
R. Moreno reported:
Officer De Leon and another off-duty officer
were at apartment #1015, wearing plain clothes. An unknown black
male knocked on the door of the apartment. The suspect shot Officer
De Leon multiple times when he answered the door and then fled
through the apartment complex.
Anyone with information in this case is urged
to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime
Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. In addition to the Crime Stoppers reward,
the Houston Police Officers Union is offering up to an additional
$5,000 and officials with Schepp's Dairy have posted an additional
$10,000 reward to anyone who leads to the identity of and charges
against the suspect in this case.
