Incident at 5500 Bellaire
March 26, 2005 -- Charges are
pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a
woman in the 5500 block of Bellaire Blvd. about 2:35 a.m. today
(March 26).
The identity of the female victim, 24, is not
being released pending notification of family members. She suffered
several gunshot wounds to her back and an arm and was pronounced
dead at the scene. The suspect is believed to be the woman's boyfriend.
HPD Homicide Division Officers D. Vasquez and
M. Sosa reported:
The victim along with the suspect and another
female friend were riding in a cab when an argument began between
the suspect and the victim, who were sitting in the backseat.
The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim several times.
After the shooting, the suspect fled on foot and was located approximately
one mile away by HPD patrol officers. The suspect was brought
back to the scene where witnesses positively identified him. The
cab driver and the other passenger were not injured.
Investigators are still trying to determine the
true identity of the suspect, 28, who may have several aliases.
He will be charged with murder later today.
