March 25, 2005 -- Houston police
are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 14200 block
of Briar Forest about 3:05 p.m. Thursday (March 24).
The victim, Gary Wayne Pike, 45, was pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Traffic Division Sergeant R. A. Gonzales
and Officers J. Tippy and R. Breiding reported:
The victim and a passenger, identified as his
14-year-old daughter, were traveling on Briar Forest when he lost
control of his vehicle. According to the daughter, her dad was
driving eastbound on Briar Forest when he appeared to be in some
sort of discomfort. The victim leaned back in his seat and immediately
appeared to lose consciousness which caused his foot to hit the
gas pedal. The vehicle accelerated rapidly, swerved left and struck
the center median and a tree. After striking the tree, the vehicle
rolled over and struck a second tree before coming to a stop.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported
the victim's daughter to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where
she is listed in good condition. The victim's cause of death will
be determined by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
