March 13, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the shooting of a two-year-old at 5600 Gatewood Ave on Saturday, March 13, 2005 about 4:20 p.m.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.J. Grysen and Officer T. Huynh reported:

The victim's mother had recently purchased a gun after being alarmed about burglaries in the area and she had left it inside her purse in the bedroom. The victim, 2, and his four-year-old brother were arguing. The four-year-old admitted to going into his mother's purse to get her gun and then shooting his two-year-old brother in the head. The mother heard a gunshot from her bedroom and ran to find her two-year-old shot in the head. The victim was transported to Ben Taub General hospital by HFD. The victim was listed in critical condition at the PICU of Ben Taub General hospital and the four-year-old was referred to CPS. The case will be referred to the Harris County District Attorney's office for review for possible charges.
