Update on Incident at 10400 Burden at Parker Road
June 30, 2005 -- A suspect has
been arrested in the death of a man found at 10400 Burden at Parker
Road about 9:45 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2005.
The suspect, Lowell Kent Stevens (w/m DOB: 3-10-59),
has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the 177th
State District Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and
Officer J. Sosa reported:
The victim was discovered lying on his back in
a ditch at Burden at Parker Road by city workers cleaning the
storm drainage system. The Houston Fire Department and Houston
Police Department responded and determined the victim was deceased.
No identification was found on the victim and police observed
minor contusions on his face.
On Tuesday (June 28), witnesses came forward
and identified the victim as Gary Lee Owens, 54, address unknown.
The Harris County Medical Examiner ruled Owens died of blunt force
trauma to the head. Witnesses stated they observed Stevens assaulting
Owens. A short time later, he was seen with Owens' property. Following
the arrest, officers found Owens' property in Stevens' possession.
