Incident at 9603 Homestead
June 24, 2005 -- The shooting
of an auto theft suspect at 9603 Homestead about 4 a.m. today
(June 24) will be referred to the Harris County grand jury.
The injured suspect is identified as Antonio
Hunt, 29, of 16234 Soaring Eagle in Sugar Land. He suffered a
gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General
Hospital where he is in grave condition. At the time of this shooting,
Hunt was wanted and charged with theft in Harris Count Criminal
Court #11.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Binford and
Officer R. Swainson reported:
Antonio Hunt and an unknown accomplice were attempting
to steal a vehicle at 9603 Homestead, utilizing a wrecker stolen
several days earlier from 15010 Chipman. The victim, Jermaine
Wilson, 20, was alerted to the theft in progress by the vehicle's
auto alarm. He retrieved a handgun and went outside to confront
the suspects. The victim chased the fleeing wrecker through the
apartment complex and shot out the tires of the wrecker in order
to stop the fleeing suspects. The suspects jumped out of the wrecker
in an attempt to flee on foot. Mr. Wilson stated that once outside
of the stolen wrecker, Hunt reached for his waistband as if to
retrieve a weapon. Fearing for his life, Wilson fired his weapon
again striking Hunt in the head.
Investigators discovered the suspects had slashed
several tires of vehicles near the victim's car in order to avoid
being chased.
Anyone with information on the second unknown
suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600
