Incident at 1340 Gessner

July 6, 2005 -- Houston police have learned the identity of a man fatally shot at 1340 Gessner about 4 a.m. on June 30.

The victim, Rafael Salgado Sanchez, 34, of 8211 Old Trail Drive suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Officers D. Vasquez and M. Sosa reported:

Sanchez was found behind a business at 1340 Gessner. An unknown witness called 911 from a payphone, identifying himself only as "George" to report the incident. This witness has not been located at this time. Investigators are urging the witness to contact them to provide more information.

Investigators have learned Sanchez was known to local transients in the area as "Garfield."
