Incident at 6240 Synott
July 4, 2005 -- The fatal shooting
of an armed aggravated robbery suspect at 6240 Synott about 9:15
p.m. on Sunday (July 3) will be referred to a Harris County grand
jury.
The suspect did not have any identification on
him at the scene. His identity is unknown pending an autopsy by
the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. W. McStravick
and Officer P. T. Yochum reported:
The owner of a convenience store was assisting
a customer when the suspect jumped behind the counter and pointed
a pistol at the owner and his customer. The store owner was able
to produce his own pistol and fire several times at the suspect.
The suspect was thought to have fled the scene on foot without
obtaining any property. However, responding Houston police officers
discovered the suspect's body behind the store a short time later.
He suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and died on the
scene.
