Arrests in Sexual Assault of Baby Girl

February 4, 2005 -- Charges have been filed against a man and woman in connection with injuries sustained to their six-month-old daughter at the family's home in the 1000 block of Gargan.

The suspects, Ivan Castaneda (H/m, DOB 6-23-83) and Donna Marie Norman (w/f,
DOB 10-13-85), are each charged with injury to a child - serious bodily injury in the 338th State District Court.

The baby is in critical condition at Texas Children's Hospital with multiple internal and external injuries throughout her body.

Houston Police Juvenile Division Sergeant R. Upton of the Sex Crimes Unit reported:

Castaneda and Norman are the biological parents of the victim and had taken the baby to Doctors Hospital-Parkway on Wednesday (Feb. 2). Medical staff there called for an ambulance to transfer the baby to Texas Children's Hospital due to the injuries observed to the infant. Investigators questioned and detained the suspects, who said they had care, custody and control of the baby during the time the injuries occurred.
