Traffic Incident at 7000 Gulf Freeway

December 17, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 7000 Gulf Freeway about 8:40 a.m. today (Dec. 17).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant M.W. Bearden and Officer J.W. Nickell reported:

The driver of a passenger vehicle was attempting to enter the northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway via the on ramp when he loss control of the vehicle and began to spin. As the vehicle crossed several lanes, it was struck by a commercial box truck, which was traveling northbound. Both vehicles slid off of the freeway and onto the shoulder. The driver of the passenger vehicle died at the scene. The other driver was uninjured. Rain was a factor in this accident.
