Traffic Incident at 1600 Eastex Freeway

August 15, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1600 Eastex Freeway about 1:40 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 14).

The victim has been identified as two-year-old Leila Menez, who was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant N. Nguyen and Officer R. Davidson reported:

A white Nissan Maxima was traveling southbound on the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North) when it stalled in a moving lane of traffic. The driver of a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the rear of the Maxima. All five individuals in the Maxima were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where the infant died and the other four occupants had minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured and did not show any signs of intoxication.
