Traffic Incident at 4300 Oak Forest

April 15, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 4300 block of Oak Forest about 2:50 p.m. on Thursday (Apr. 14).

The victim is identified as Anthony Dwight, 10, of 1235 Curtin. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Traffic Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer D. Erton reported:

Witnesses said the driver of a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, Marcella Mendez, 43, was attempting to travel south on Oak Forest from a parking lot. The driver paused at the street long enough to check for traffic and did not see the child riding the bicycle toward her. As she turned onto the street, she struck the bicycle.

The investigation is ongoing.
