Houston Police Patrol officers were dispatched to where an unknown black male suspect forced his way into the home and attacked the elderly residents of the household, strangling one of the occupants. While inside of the home the suspect obtained knives from the kitchen. The next-door neighbor, wielding a pistol, went to assist the owners of the home. When officers arrived, they found the owners of the residence and the next-door neighbor tussling with the suspect in the bedroom of the residence. In doing so, the residents told the officers that the suspect gained possession of his firearm. The officers requested the suspect to drop the weapon, but the suspect pointed the weapon in the direction of the officers. The officers discharged their firearms fearing for their safety and the safety of the residents in the home. The suspect continued to reach for the firearm, refusing to comply with officers' request. Officers discharged their firearms at the suspect striking him multiple times. Officer then attempted to provide emergency medical services by apply tourniquets and chest seals until HFD arrived and found that the suspect had succumbed to his injuries. One of the complainants was transported to the hospital with minor injuries to chest and legs but was released later that evening.
