An officer observed a traffic violation, turned on his emergency lights and sirens, and attempted to pull the vehicle over on a traffic stop. The driver ignored the officer’s commands to pull over and began to actively flee. After 1.5 miles, the suspect stopped his vehicle, exited, and continued to flee on foot. The suspect presented a handgun and was ordered by the officer to drop the weapon numerous times. The suspect ignored these commands. In fear of his life, the officer discharged his duty weapon multiple times striking the suspect with non-life threatening injuries. The officer was not injured.
