Officers were conducting a follow-up investigation involving several aggravated robberies in the mid-west area. Officers located a known suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in order to identify the driver. The driver refused to stop and after a short vehicle pursuit, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The driver exited the vehicle with a pistol in his hand and attempted to carjack a nearby citizen by forcing his way into the driver’s seat of the citizen’s vehicle. Officers surrounded the vehicle and began to give verbal commands to the suspect to drop the pistol and show his hands but the suspect failed to obey. Fearing for the safety of the citizen and her one-year-old child, one officer discharged his weapon 4 times striking the suspect in the torso. The child, who was in the back seat of the vehicle, was also struck by gunfire during the shooting. The child was transported to the hospital and was in stable condition within the ICU at Memorial Hermann hospital. The suspect succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
