Houston Police officers attempted to pull over a vehicle on a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and evaded arrest, leading the officers on a chase lasting over 20 minutes. Once at a safe location, officers successfully executed a PIT maneuver on the suspect's vehicle in an attempt to end the high-speed chase. The suspect, whose vehicle was now facing the marked HPD police vehicles, could be seen pointing a firearm at the officers, and the suspect discharged his weapon, striking the windshield of one of the police vehicles. Several officers at the location discharged their weapons, and the suspect was struck by the gunfire. Once officers were able to safely check on the condition of the suspect, it was found that he had succumbed to his wounds. No officers were injured during this incident.
