Crime Reduction Unit of the Gang Division
The Crime Reduction Unit of the Gang Division was formed in late 2007 to be a new, flexible, crime fighting tool. The unit’s mission is to address crime problems in specific areas experiencing high rates of narcotics activity, violent crimes, and gang activity. When requested, the unit works with investigators from other divisions within the department and other agencies.
Since it’s inception in November of 2007, to present, the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) personnel have clearly demonstrated their ability to seek out and arrest career criminals. They have filed over 8,050 felony charges and over 2,370 misdemeanor charges on suspects. The have also executed over 2,000 felony and 11,040 misdemeanor warrants.
Arrest histories of these suspects include murders, narcotics charges, weapons charges, robberies, burglaries, auto thefts, thefts, sex offenses, and assorted other charges. In addition, officers assigned to the Crime Reduction Unit recovered over 890 firearms and documented over 3,480 criminal street gang members into the Gang Tracker System.
The Houston Police Department would like to recognize their dedication and professionalism. We would also like to acknowledge this unit’s tireless work ethic and fortitude in a very difficult and dangerous job.
