June 20, 2023 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8500 Galveston Road about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday (June 18).

The identity of the deceased female, 37, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer F. Flynn reported:

The female was driving a vehicle of unknown make and model at a high rate of speed northbound near the above address. According to a witness, as the vehicle approached the intersection of South Shaver Road, the driver lost control and struck a traffic signal pole. The vehicle then burst into flames. The impact caused a tire from the vehicle to strike another vehicle, a blue Nissan Murano.

The female was pronounced deceased at the scene and her vehicle was burned beyond recognition. The female driver, 55, of the Nissan was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
