June 9, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 1550 Burnett Street about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (June 8).

The suspect, Kelsey Marie Dugas, 31, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 232nd State District Court. A booking photo of Dugas is attached to this news release.

She is accused in the shooting of Alfonso Valdez-Nino, 35, who is in stable condition at an area hospital.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective K. Kelly reported:

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the apartment complex at the above address and located Mr. Valdez-Nino with a gunshot wound to his left leg. Paramedics were called and transported Valdez-Nino to a hospital.

Detectives learned Dugas invited the victim over to her apartment. After Valdez-Nino left her apartment, Dugas shot at him, striking him one time. Officers arrested Dugas without further incident and she was subsequently charged in the incident.
