Suspect Charged in Shooting Incident at 10630 Beechnut Street
May 13, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a suspect shot by a Houston police officer at 10630 Beechnut Street about 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday (May 11).
The suspect, Christopher Figueroa, 37, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer in the 482nd State District Court. A booking photo of Figueroa, hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound, is not available for release at this time.
Officer M. Guerra, who discharged his weapon in the incident, was not injured. He was sworn in as an officer in September 2018 and is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Glover and Detectives I. Ulloa, S. Mohajer and A. Henderson reported:
Officers responded to a welfare check/individual in crisis call to the apartment complex at the above address and observed the suspect harming himself with large shards of glass, which he was holding in each hand. The officers asked the suspect to drop the glass shards (weapons) multiple times so they could get him medical treatment, but the male refused. The suspect then charged the officers with the weapons, and one officer discharged a duty weapon and struck the suspect at least one time. Houston Fire Department paramedics were already on scene to give immediate medical aid and transported the male to the hospital.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
