December 27, 2022 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of two men - one of them an off-duty Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy - at 5600 Schumacher Lane about 5:55 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 26).

The men were transported to an area hospital in critical, but stable condition.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detectives N. Alvarado, V. Praxedes and O. Flores reported:

The off-duty deputy was with a female inside her vehicle at the above address when they were confronted by the woman's ex-boyfriend. A confrontation ensued between all three individuals that escalated when the deputy and the other male produced guns. An exchange of gunfire occurred and both men were shot. Paramedics transported the men to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

As is customary when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.
