December 19, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in a shooting involving two METRO Police Department officers at 4505 Main Street about 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, December 17.

The suspect, Talmadge Blount, 47, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer in the 232nd State District Court. A 2021 booking photo of Blount, who remains hospitalized, is attached to this news release.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant J. Hekimian and Detectives N. Arellano, W. Elliott and V. Nguyen reported:

The two METRO police officers made contact with Blount for trespassing at a METRO rail platform at the above address. The METRO officers advised the suspect he was trespassing and ordered him to leave. The suspect refused and threatened to kill the METRO officers if they tried to put handcuffs on him. The METRO officers attempted to detain the suspect, but he continued to threaten them and entered a METRO railcar.

The METRO officers followed the suspect into the railcar and, as they attempted to take him into custody, he pushed and kicked one officer in the knee, causing him to fall to the ground. That officer deployed his taser, but it struck the second METRO officer, who was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect.

As the METRO officer fell to the ground, the suspect jumped on top of him and grabbed him by the throat. The METRO officer struck by the taser was unable to get off the ground. Fearing for the safety of his fellow officer, the METRO officer with the knee injury discharged his duty weapon at the suspect, striking him multiple times. Paramedics transported the suspect to a local hospital in stable condition.

Paramedics also transported the METRO officer who suffered an injury to his knee.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents occurring in the Houston city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
