Tara B. Chandler, PhD

Dr. Chandler, a native Houstonian, is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she continued her academic studies, earning her Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Counseling. Dr. Chandler’s dissertation, Measures of Marital Satisfaction among Husbands and Wives in Dual-Earner African-American Families laid the foundation for her continuous work in the community, facilitating workshops and seminars on various topics that contribute to the overall success of healthy relationships. Over the years, Dr. Chandler has demonstrated her ability in developing and designing programs and course curricula, facilitating training activities, and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of programs. She has the unique ability to work with a diverse group of people, along with exhibiting impeccable communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Prior to her position as Senior Trainer for the City of Houston’s Learning and Development Center, Dr. Chandler’s professional career is credited to her experience: coordinating personnel training and staff development programs for industrial, commercial, academic, and governmental establishments for the Atlanta University Center Sustainable Campus Community Initiative (ASCCI) project; managing the High School Energy Summer Institute (HESI) program, designed to train and promote energy science and engineering, multi-disciplinary education, and research; facilitating live chat discussions through the development of interactive classroom materials and presentations within the Virtual Campus; and monitoring the efficiency and success of academic support programs and developing the framework to access the program’s strengths and identifying areas for improvement.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Dr. Chandler works diligently in the community to address: cultural competency and diversity; establishing and sustaining healthy relationships; the inequalities and lack of diversity in the public school curriculum and campus-based activities and organizations; and the disparities in mental and behavioral health treatment options between populations. She is an actively involved member on the Campus-Based Leadership Team, established to assist public school principals with establishing goals and objectives aimed at helping students maximize their potential, both academically and developmentally.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Dr. Chandler is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and her alma mater Clark Atlanta University’s Alumni Association, Inc.
PERSONAL LIFE
Dr. Chandler is extremely passionate about the institution of marriage and family, and its overall health and longevity. She is happily married to the man that she affectionately calls “Hubby,” and they have two beautiful children, a son, and a daughter. Dr. Chandler’s life, family, and career experiences are grounded in her faith and love of God.
