September 15, 2020 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a woman at 98 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 6:30 p.m. on Monday (September 14).  

The victim, Ashley Garcia, 19, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officer A. Huerta reported:  

Officers responded to a shooting call near the above address and, after speaking with Ms. Garcia, learned she attempted to attend the funeral of a friend, but was denied entry into the funeral service by the friend's family.  Garcia left the funeral home (at 5352 Katy Freeway) and noticed a dark-colored sedan following her. 

As Garcia merged onto the East Freeway, the suspect vehicle pulled up next to her and a suspect inside fired several shots into her vehicle.  Garcia was struck once in the lower back.  The suspect vehicle fled eastbound on the freeway.  Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Garcia to the hospital.  

At this time, there is no suspect description.
