When the boyfriend arrived home, he attempted to leave with his and Pelaken's girlfriend. All three were confronted by Pelaken in the parking lot. During the confrontation, the male obtained the gun from Pelaken's girlfriend and fired several shots to deter Pelaken from walking toward them. Pelaken managed to get into his vehicle, a black Mustang, and fled the scene.
A short time alter, Pelaken was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Webster, Texas, and was determined to have suffered a gunshot wound in the original incident.
