Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 12753 Leader Street
January 27, 2020 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 12753 Leader Street about 9:05 a.m. on Saturday (January 25).
The victim, Artemio Agustin Ruiz Avila, 69, was transported to an area hospital were he was pronounced deceased.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Brady and M. Casso reported:
Mr. Ruiz Avila was at his residence at the above address when he was shot while leaving for work. Ruiz Avila had just taken out the trash when he was approached and shot. He was able to return to his townhouse before he collapsed. Relatives called an ambulance. Prior to being transported to the hospital, Ruiz Avila told relatives a black male had shot him.
Although no items were taken from Ruiz Avila, it appears that robbery may have been the motive and he might have fought back against his attacker. Homicide detectives are asking anyone who lives in the area to check any surveillance video they might have between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on January 25.
