Investigation into Fatal Crash at 7600 East Freeway
February 13, 2020 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7600 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 12).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Riley reported:
Officers responded to a public lewdness call involving a male at a restaurant at 1700 North Wayside Drive. As officers approached the male, he fled on foot southbound toward the East Freeway. One officer attempted to pursue the male, but stopped before reaching the freeway.
The male ran across the westbound lanes, crossed the concrete median and then began to run across the eastbound lanes. At that time, he was struck by an 18-wheeler and a second vehicle. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene. The two drivers stopped, showed no signs of intoxication and were questioned and released. The investigation is continuing.
