August 17, 2020 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 12000 Northwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 290) that occurred about 1:05 a.m. on Saturday (Aug. 15).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Benavidez and Officer C. Song reported:

The driver of an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer stated he was driving in the middle lanes of the freeway at the above address when he felt a sudden impact to the rear of his trailer.  The driver said his tires locked up and he pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway and stopped.  He said he then observed a white Chevrolet van on fire. 

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was determined not to be intoxicated.  He was questioned and released.  

The investigation is continuing.
