Investigation into Fatal Crash at 700 Austin Street
March 8, 2019 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 700 Austin Street about 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday (March 5).
The male victim, 73, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where, on March 6, he was pronounced deceased.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer S. Coke reported:
The victim, a pedestrian, was crossing Capital Street northbound at the Austin Street intersection when he was struck by an orange Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep, traveling northbound on Austin, initially stopped at a red light at the intersection. When the light turned green, the Jeep's driver turned left onto Capital and struck the victim while he was in the crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication.
There are no charges in this incident, as the investigation is continuing.
