July 7, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 5400 Caversham about 1:30 p.m. on Monday (July 3).

The suspect, Markell Deon Davis (b/m, 19), is charged with capital murder in the 208th State District Court for his role in the killing of Gabriel Coleman, 37.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer W. Huff and Officer E. Contreras reported:

Mr. Coleman and a witness were in a vehicle when they picked up the suspect in the 8900 block of Chimney Rock.  Coleman was sitting in the front passenger seat when the suspect grabbed him from around the neck and pulled out a gun.  The witness pulled the vehicle over on Caversham and jumped out when he heard one gun shot.  He saw the suspect then flee on foot, firing at a passing vehicle as he left.  The suspect was described only as a black male.

Further investigation led to the identity of Davis as the suspect in this case and he was arrested about 11 p.m. on Thursday (July 6) without incident.
