Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2001 Fatal Shooting
September 21, 2016 - Investigators in the Houston Police Department Cold Case Unit have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman found at 3000 Bearing about 6:20 a.m. on July 25, 2001.
The suspect, Larry Lozano (H/m, 40), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. A photo of Lozano is attached to this news release.
Lozano is accused in the death of Martha Closner, 35, who died at the scene.
HPD Homicide Cold Case Unit Senior Police Officer M. Kral reported:
Officers responded to a report of a female (Ms. Closner) lying on the ground outside a car in the parking lot at the above address. Closner had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
During a recent review of this case, the HPD Cold Case Unit identified an additional witness and Lozano was identified as a suspect in this case. Additional interviews were conducted, DNA evidence was re-examined and Lozano was charged in this case. On Tuesday (Sept. 20), Lozano was arrested by deputies with the Colorado County Sheriff's Office without incident.
